Emily awoke to the smell of bacon and eggs drifting into her room from the dining area downstairs. She was still wearing the same bohemian-style dress she had put on the day before. She looked at the digital alarm clock on her nightstand. It was 2:05 p.m. She had no idea what time she had gone to bed, some time in the early morning hours after spending a considerable amount of time staring off into the distance until the stars began to fade and the first rays of the sun began to peak over the horizon, but when she did finally go to bed, she crashed hard. She was more than eager to join the others for breakfast but supposed she should clean herself up and make herself presentable before making her way downstairs. She would be damned if they were going to see her coming into the dining area with bed-head and a wrinkled dress. She easily found the items she needed in the connecting bathroom and took the most pleasurable shower she could remember taking in her life. A touch-screen panel at shoulder level beneath a slot where the shower head would have been sent soothing streams of steaming warm water cascading over her body from the front, from the sides, from the back, individually, all at the same time or in various combinations. She got a thrill out of experimenting with the multitude of options available to her. She dressed in a simple outfit, blue jeans, white button-up blouse, sneakers, and made her way down the stairs, hair wet and untouched by any styling device, left to dry naturally and curl up as she preferred it. She was met halfway up the stairs by the smell of coffee. She could use of cup. She hadn't had a decent cup of coffee in over a century. She smiled at the thought. She walked into the kitchen and was greeted with a hearty good morning by her entire new family. She returned the greeting and made a point of looking directly at Richard with a warm smile to alleviate any potential awkwardness that may have carried over from the previous evening.

“I suppose everybody's getting a late start today,” Emily said as she sat down.

“Well, we all had a late night,” Richard said. “Especially you, up until the crack of dawn staring out into the cosmos, pondering life's mysteries.”

Emily wasn't surprised that Richard had seen her but was surprised that he was so quick to point it out. She had suspected that Richard had encouraged David to come out to the deck to talk to her. She believed David when he had said that he didn't have any concrete information regarding whether or not Richard and George were going to ask her to go to Eden but thought it possible that Richard had sent him to the deck to assess her emotional state and to report anything she had said regarding her experience with the hologram so that he and
